For this discussion: I am referring to face claims of real people, not art/graphics used without permission from artists.
I know a lot of people out there don’t use face claims and prefer to draw their characters instead. I would do the same if I could actually draw.
I have heard the whole talk about face claims being restrictive, uncreative, etc - so this is not something new to me. But for those of you (including myself) who use face claims, what do you think about it? Does it help you envision your character easier? Is there a line when it comes to the people you use, or where you obtain your inspiration?
Personally, I find it easier to imagine people rather than just drawings - I am not good at translating a drawn image into a person in my mind. Also, I get very good character inspiration from seeing potential face claims.
But I do feel uncomfortable - what if one of these people I use one day saw the profiles I have made, with characters based on their face claim? On that same note, I dislike the use of some super popular celebrities. In fact, I steer clear from them entirely.
