Take your time. Like… I’ve always had an understanding of - yeah there’s going to be this main character - but lemme just develop all these side characters (and the second main character who comes in later why do I make everything hard for myself) and develop the hell out of the environment and plot. But not for the main character she ain’t really coming to me yet. Then I fully realized she didn’t have an appearance, personality, or relationship to anyone but I can’t find a way to start the story without this “entity”.
P.S. I’ve developed her pretty well now, and been able to have her involved in all the craziness. But this is just what happens when you develop the main character last. Chaos.
Either way, NaNoWriMo is amazing for a lost writer like me, I guess. It forces you to write on the spot, whether you have things planned or not. It gets you writing. Unfortunately, it’s only during November. If you’re considering it, just know that there isn’t any kind of downside for not completing the goal - as 50,000 words can be a bit daunting.
